If your home still runs on a 60 or 100 amp panel, you're probably already feeling it. Breakers tripping when the dryer and the microwave run together. Lights dimming when the AC kicks in. A lot of the 1965 split-levels along Davis Drive and the older bungalows up around Mulock are still on their original 60-amp services. Tim's been replacing them with 200-amp panels for 15 years. An upgrade brings your home up to current code and gives you the headroom to run everything you actually use without worrying about overload.
What it costs
Transparent pricing in writing.
A standard 100A to 200A residential panel upgrade runs $2,500 to $4,500. The price depends on the condition of the existing service, the distance from the meter to the panel, and whether any circuits need rework. Tim quotes the exact number after the walkthrough — and the quote doesn't move unless you change scope.
Before & after
What we replace. What we leave.
What we typically find
- Breakers tripping when normal appliances run together
- Fuse panel with screw-in fuses instead of breakers
- Panel warm to the touch or buzzing
- Burning smell anywhere near the service entrance
- Insurance company flagged it on renewal

From Assessment to Inspection
How a panel upgrade works.
- 01
Walkthrough
Tim looks at the existing panel, the service entrance, the load you're carrying, and what you want to add. Calculates whether a 200-amp upgrade is the right call or whether a sub-panel makes more sense.
- 02
Quote and permit
We give you a fixed price, pull the ESA permit, and schedule the swap for a weekday that works for you.
- 03
Panel swap
We disconnect the old panel, install the new one, wire every circuit, and label every breaker. Full-day job. Power is off for several hours.
- 04
ESA inspection
We schedule the ESA inspection and meet the inspector on site. Pass on the first visit — that's the standard.

This is your home's main service. Done wrong, it's a fire risk for the next 30 years. In Ontario, panel work requires an ESA permit and inspection — no exceptions. Tim's pulled hundreds of these permits, knows the inspectors by name, and gets it right the first time so the inspection passes on day one.

FAQ
Common questions
How much does a panel upgrade cost in Ontario?
A typical 100A to 200A upgrade runs $2,500 to $4,500. The price depends on your existing wiring, the distance from the meter to the panel, and whether circuits need to be reworked. Tim quotes the exact number before any work starts, and it doesn't move unless scope changes.
How long does a panel upgrade take?
Same-day job. Hydro shuts the power off in the morning, the swap happens during the day, ESA inspects the same day, and Hydro turns the power back on — most homes are back live by 6pm.
Do I need a permit for a panel upgrade?
Yes. In Ontario, all panel work requires an ESA permit and inspection. We pull the permit and schedule the inspection. You don't deal with it.
Will my insurance company require this?
Many insurers in Ontario require upgrades for homes with Federal Pacific, Zinsco, or fuse panels. Some won't renew until it's done. If your insurer flagged it, we handle the upgrade and provide the ESA inspection paperwork.
